The Housatonic Foundation, Inc. Scholarship Application allows you to apply for all scholarships with one online application! We match awardees with scholarships based on your answers.
Criteria/Qualifications/Guidelines
- Required to Apply: Both your student ID (12345678) and college email (JDoe0001@mail.ct.edu) are required.
- Contact Admissions for a student ID and email. HC-Admissions@Housatonic.edu (You are not required to enroll in classes to submit your application.)
- Apply if you: pay out of pocket, international, undocumented, DACA, etc., or receive less than 100% financial aid.
- All students may apply: new, existing, credit, non-credit, certificate, continuing education, full-time or part-time.
- Transcripts: Upload a PDF of your latest transcript from college or high school. We need to see your grades and classes.
- Bill/Schedule: Upload a PDF of your latest college bill.
- GPA: 2.3 minimum required; if it's lower, explain in the essay how you are working to rectify the matter.
- Essay required: Answer: "Why do you need a scholarship?"
Financial Aid vs. HCC Foundation Scholarships
- If you cannot apply for financial aid, explain why in your application.
- All U.S. citizens are required to apply for financial aid each year. https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa
- If you qualify for federal, state, or other funding, you are required to accept that first.
- If your financial aid covers 100% of your CT State college classes, you will not qualify for a scholarship.
- If you are only offered a loan from financial aid, please explain why.

Applying and Submitting Your Application
- Watch your college emails for opportunities to apply (check your junk email folder).
- Apply at: Scholarships (housatonic.edu) or at the CT State on the Housatonic Website; Paying for college; Scholarships
- As soon as you submit your application, you will receive a confirmation email.
What may and may not be covered
- If awarded in the fall or spring, the scholarship may cover up to 12 credits. (All at an in-state tuition rate.)
- If awarded for winter or summer, the scholarship will cover a single class. This amount will vary based on each student's required class. (all at the CT State Community College in-state tuition rate)
- HCC Foundation awards are not transferable to other semesters, people, or colleges and are invalid if not used.
- Awards do not cover books, online key codes, lab fees, tools, supplemental supplies, materials, late fees, etc.
- If you need books, apply through the HCC Textbook Assistance Program (TAP) (housatonic.edu).
Who may or may not qualify? If needed, make your case in your essay.
- HCC Foundation scholarships are awarded to students taking all or the majority of their classes on the CT State Housatonic campus.
- Students with 100% funding for classes through any resource do not qualify for scholarships.
- Good academic and financial standing at college is required.
- 75 credits or more may not qualify unless you have two majors.
- Students with a U.S. college degree may not be eligible. (State your case in the essay.)
- A 2.29 GPA or lower may not qualify. (Show your efforts and visit tutoring.
- These are need-based scholarships. Clarify your need for assistance.
- The college requires debt to be paid before awards can be applied.
If you are awarded
- You are required to accept the scholarship agreement.
- You will be asked to volunteer once a year at HCC Foundation Inc. and/or at a CT State Housatonic event. (HCCF Giving Day Event, photo shoots, marketing, videos, or a greeter at a college event.)
- If your financial aid covers 100% of your semester fees, you must decline the scholarship for the semester.
- You are required to report any financial status changes, including awards for CT State College tuition and fees.
- Notify the Foundation of any W, I, or NC grades. This may cause ineligibility for future scholarships or assistance.
- You are required to complete all your courses, or you will be responsible for all charges incurred if you withdraw.
- If paid upfront and then awarded, you will be reimbursed up to the amount noted in the award email.

- The generous donations from HCC Foundation donors make it possible for us to assist CT State Housatonic students.
- HCC Foundation donors may inquire about your major, grades, and activities and ask to meet with you.
- Awardees’ first name, photo, image, thank you note, or quote may be used in donor communications, PR, advertising, or events.
- Inform the Alumni Association of your status for a minimum of 2 years after graduation or transfer, or better yet, get involved.
- Once the review is complete, the awardee names and amounts will be given to the bursars.
- Awardee accounts are credited by the college business office. (Bursars)
- Once the bursar invoices the foundation, your account credit will be visible.
For students who were granted an exception award, we will inquire about your grades.
- If your GPA is 2.29 or lower, you are required to go to tutoring throughout the semester.
- If we make an exception and grant you a scholarship, you need to show that your grades improved over the semester.
- If we make an exception and grant you a scholarship, meet with your advisors throughout the semester.
- If you have personal or academic concerns, visit your faculty advisor, counseling advisor, tutor, and/or Wellness Center.
TIPS & HINTS
- Read and answer everything in the application, but don’t wait until the last minute.
- Make sure your essay's character count is correct, or you will not be able to submit your application.
- Use Grammarly.com or MS Word before pasting your essay into the application.
- Take advantage of the tutoring and writing center. They will help you with your application essay!
Privacy Notice and Consent:
CT State Housatonic is committed to your success, including securing your personal information and maintaining your privacy when we collect personal information. If you apply for a scholarship, the Housatonic Foundation (“We”) will only use your application information for the purpose of determining scholarship eligibility and administering scholarship benefits if awarded. If you are selected as a scholarship recipient, we may disclose your name, GPA, and information from your personal statement to Housatonic Foundation donors (“Donors”) for the purpose of relaying the value of their contributions to the Housatonic community. We may also include your name, photograph, if applicable, and personal statement in the annual report for the purpose of informing the broader community about your success. To administer scholarship payments, we will provide your name, Banner ID, and e-mail address so that scholarship benefits can be accurately distributed. By submitting this scholarship application, you are providing official consent for your personal information provided as part of the application to be used for the purposes described in the privacy notification.
Consent to Determine Financial Need:
I consent to the disclosure of limited information from my educational record to the Housatonic Foundation, Inc. (“the Foundation”) from CT State Housatonic (“the College”). This disclosure shall include a determination if I have filed a FAFSA with the college, my expected family contribution, my financial aid award information from federal, state, institutional, and other sources, and my charges for tuition and fees related to my attendance at the college. I understand that this information will be used for the limited purpose of the Foundation, which is to review my scholarship application materials and make a determination as to my eligibility for an award from the Foundation. I understand that my consent to the disclosure of the aforementioned information from my educational record is valid only for the current academic year.
Acknowledgment
I understand that funding associated with my financial aid package will be used before I receive additional funding and that funding is not transferrable to other CT State campuses. Balances will not be paid out.
